Thanks Louise for the footy updates, we were a little behind on these (Go Carlton! are you going to Sydney for the game Louise?). Thanks also to Baz for letting us know the outcome of the election. Glad you guys get to break in the new PM before we return.
Well the dreaded jet lag hit Gordo last night. Not managing to sleep until about 2:30am. Carrie slept like a baby, will see what happens this evening. We will keep you posted, I know you are all interested.....
We tried to work out how many km's we walked yesterday, as this morning our bodies and feet were a little weary. Rough calculations say just over 10kms yesterday which included the mother of all hills and some of her kids too.
Today was a slightly earlier start than yesterday after hitting the snooze button for an hour (Gordo was struggling a little and there was no complaint from Toot).
After breakfast we headed up the hill again to Fishermans Wharf where along the way we spotted the fog rolling in across the bay. This put a slight dampener on the plans for the day but we readjusted a few things and made it work.
We headed out to Alcatraz via Pier 33 and spent about 2.5 hours on an audio guided tour of the cell block and heard all about the riots and attempted escapes, as well as life on the rock itself for correctional officers and their families. It was very interesting and just after half way, Toots audio crapped itself and luckily Gordo had her headphones in her backpack and we shared the rest of the way.
It took a little longer to return back to the city as the ferry's were running a little behind due to the fog. Have to post a question here. What do u call lunch/dinner? Lunch and breakfast have brunch but we were unsure what to call a meal eaten at 4pm, dunch or linner? Whatever it is, we ate then. We went to Bubba Gumps Shrimp Co. and market. For those of you who know Forrest Gump, this will make sense. We ate shrimp stuffed with crab in a garlic, butter and cheesy sauce (yes we did share), fries and salad. It was delicious to say the least and we had eaten sufficiently.
We had planned to do a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge after that but the fog was very heavy and we wouldn't have been able to see much. We have since decided that we will do this tomorrow regardless of the fog status.
On the schedule tomorrow we will be visiting Alamo Square Park to see The Painted Ladies (for Full House fans these are the iconic San Francisco houses spotted in the opening titles). After that trip, we will be riding the bridge and returning on ferry then back for some more food touring of San Francisco.
And for those following, yes this will be the first time Toot has ridden since that day in October 2 years ago, that claimed the sturdiness of her ankle. The left ankle should be fine though considering the scaffolding she has in there. Please wish her luck as Gordo doesn't want to be pushing a wheelchair for the next 6 weeks.
Oh and we were asked today by another tourist if we we're locals I think she wanted directions? Not sure how she came to this conclusions since Toot was in her new SF jumper (which was just purchased as she was freezing her arse off on the wharf) and her big camera bag? She must have more confused than we were or maybe slightly worse eyesight than Toot oh well.
Until next time......
