Bark Harbor

Today we decided to let ourselves have a sneaky sleep in! We were woken by the church bells across the road at 8am but didn't really get out of bed and moving til about 9am! We decided to explore this cute little town further along with the cruise ship passengers that arrived on shore this morning. It was nuts!  There were people off two cruise ships as well as the rest of us mere tourists all in the main st all at the same time, or so it felt.

We did some browsing in some of the shops including a cute little shop just for pets (mainly dogs).  Its called Bark Harbor.  This is very appropriate as most shops in the town will allow dogs inside and ask you to leave your kids outside, haha just kidding.  Most of them have a water bowl out the front and some dog snacks just inside the door for those who are interested. Its all very sweet!

We did a little browsing and then decided to leave the crowds and go for a short walk along the sandbar that connects Mt Desert Island (the one we are on) to Bar Island. On low tide you can walk right across (which we did) and at high tide there is absolutely no sign of being able to walk between the two. Its crazy to see how fast the water goes down as one minute Gordo looked like she was walking on water and the next, there was no sign that the water had been there at all.

Once we returned from Bar Island we went and found some lunch. Yep you guessed it, lobster! We got a lobster roll each with some tarragon mayo on it.  They were delicious.  We ate them sitting on the lawn looking out into the harbour.  Not a bad spot for a little picnic. While eating we also did some people watching which is always very entertaining.  It was lovely weather, great food and a great view.  And some lite entertainment from watching the cruise ship passengers flocking for a cheap souvenir (some old biddies complaining about paying the tax on their purchases) before being ushered back to their ships.

After lunch we headed to the supermarket for a few supplies and then back to the hotel to drop them off.  After this we shared an ice cream and ate this sitting on the Village Green which is located across the road from our hotel. It was lovely.  Once our ice cream was gone we headed back to the hotel
again to have a rest and do some reading on the porch and shared a sneaky cider. Our last of the Vermont local brews.

We went and did some more laundry and then went for dinner a couple of doors down.  We shared a bowl of clam chowder and some lobster carbonara.  It was very tasty but couldn't finish it as the serving was HUGE! Even for two people.

After dinner it was time to head back to the hotel for an early night, I know pathetic but all this fresh air is killing us. Toot is also much easier to handle when she has some extra sleep under her belt.

Well I think that's about it from us for today.  Tomorrow is another chapter in our Maine adventures!
